10 Websites For Great Gifts that Give Back

It’s December and the holiday season is in full swing.  It’s time to start the search for gifts for the special people in your life.

Unfortunately, finding the perfect gift can be difficult and even stressful.  If you want to buy a memorable gift that will not only bring a smile to someone’s face but also support a worthy cause, here are 10 great websites to check out:

1. Love Your Melon

Love Your Melon started out with a goal to donate 45,000 hats— one for every child battling cancer in America.  They achieved that goal and now sell knit beanies, baseball caps, hats, and other apparel and accessories.  In other words, something for everyone!

How they give back:

Love Your Melon donates 50% of their net proceeds from the sale of all products to their nonprofit partners in the fight against pediatric cancer. Their partners work in the field of pediatric oncology, fund cancer research initiatives and provide immediate support for families of children battling cancer.  So far, they have donated over 1.5 million dollars and over 80,000 hats.

2. Sudara

Sudara has products for men, women, and kids.  Their signature item is Punjammies®, which are lounge pants in beautiful colors and prints.  They also feature robes, shorts, tops, and accessories.

How they give back:

The focus and goal of Sudara is to empower women to live in freedom from sex-slavery through safe, sustainable living-wage employment.  Their Punjammies® are created by women involved in sewing center partnerships, where they gain job skills and safe employment.  Check out their blog for more information.

How they give back:

All bracelets are hand crafted in Costa Rica, providing jobs to the artisans who make them.  Also, when you purchase one of the bracelets from their Charity Collection, they give back to one of the over 190 charities from all over the world that they partner with.  Pura Vida also donates 1% of their annual net revenue to environmental organizations worldwide.

5. Divinity LA

6. Traveller Collective

If you know someone who loves to travel, this site has the perfect gift.  Choose small silver rings engraved with country codes for the global traveler, or state codes for those who explore the United States.  Then, choose a simple clip to display them on.  This is such a fun way to commemorate someone’s travels!   I got one for my daughter after she studied abroad and she keeps it hooked on her purse to remind her of the amazing adventures she had in Europe.  She liked it so much she bought another one to commemorate the states she has visited.

How they give back:

Traveller Collective donates 20% of their profits to their current educational project.  Previously, they raised $10,000 to build a sustainable, clean water source in Northern Ethiopia.  Currently, they are working on raising the same amount to help provide better education for the children of Dum, Ethiopia.

7. Café Justo/Just Coffee

As you might have guessed, this website sells coffee.  It is fair trade, organic, and comes from a region in Mexico known for smooth tasting, low-acidity coffee.

How they give back:

The Just Coffee cooperative was started as a way to address the poverty that contributes to undocumented immigration.  The coffee growers and their families in the cooperative make a fair wage for their work and are therefore able to stay together on their own land.   The members own the entire business from growing through roasting, packaging, and shipping. All of your purchase price goes to the cooperative and the growers.

8. Higher Grounds Trading

This site offers 100% organic, fair-trade coffee from around the world.

How they give back:

  • Their Coffees for Change specialty line features premium hand-crafted coffees that raise funds for a variety important causes.  Check their website for current partners.
  • They give more than 1% of their annual gross sales to organizations working for justice in three primary categories: social, environmental, & international.
  • They donate thousands of dollars in goods, services, and cash to locally-based organizations that are working to maintain the health and livability of their community.

If you have an animal lover on your list, the new book from Susie’s Senior Dogs is the perfect gift. It’s inspiring, uplifting, and just all-around wonderful.
